VinExpo Partner Provides National Wine Shipping Solution

Lake Forest, IL April 5, 2004: As the debate continues to rage over the direct shipping of wine, an Illinois company provides a quiet reminder that a proven solution is already securely in place. Lionstone International of Lake Forest, Illinois has been providing compliant, direct-to-consumer wine delivery services for over 15 years, becoming the true pioneer in the sale and shipment of wine to consumers throughout the US. Its seamless and secure network made it the obvious choice for VinExpo, which has appointed Lionstone as clearing agent for the June event in Chicago this year.

In addition to overseas producers, Lionstone offers US wineries access to the same channels through its WorldShipNet program. Through WorldShipNet, wineries keep up to 100% of the retail price for every product sold, and greatly expand the number of states they can reach with wine club and tasting room sales.

"WorldShipNet offers wineries an opportunity to become much more profitable," explains Nick Lucca, President of Lionstone. "Wineries are also able to develop direct relationships with their own customers in major non-reciprocal states like New York, Florida, and New Jersey. Without our legal channels, this wouldn't be possible."

Today, in these "non-reciprocal" states alone, more than 1,000 packages a day move through their three-tier channels, with products from several hundred wineries registered.

In addition to providing direct delivery services, WorldShipNet ensures that each state receives all excise and sales tax, and manages the entire label registration process. "We've tried to make it as easy as possible for wineries to focus on what they do best, and that's make and sell great wine," says Lucca. "With the WorldShipNet channels, we remove some of the biggest headaches, and open up opportunities for greater profits."

Along with Lionstone, other core members of the WorldShipNet service include:

  • Lo Spuntino, a multi-state retail operation with facilities in 9 major non-reciprocal states;
  • Wineshipping.com and Vintage Logistics, LLC, fulfillment warehouses in Sonoma and the south central California coast;
  • WSN, a wine industry logistics and technology company based in San Francisco.
In addition, WorldShipNet also works with several other major warehouse operations on the west coast.

"Over the past year we've seen solid growth in all aspects of our operation," says Lucca, "and we expect that trend to continue."
